Girls Division Social Studies Department
The Social Studies Department at Regis Jesuit's Girls Division offers a variety of courses designed to provide students with an understanding of history and society, and the geographical and political world. Students must complete 3.0 credits in order to graduate. This requirement includes the three semester course World History/Global Studies for freshmen and sophomores and US History during junior year. Students will choose from a variety of elective courses to complete the graduation requirement for social studies as well as fulfilling the general graduation requirements.
The Social Studies department offers AP classes in Comparative Government, US History, European History, American Government and Politics and World History. Other courses include Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy, Economics, 20th Century America, and American Studies, which blends into American History and Literature.
After completing the Social Studies curriculum, students will have a better understanding of their world and the issues facing civilization from the past to the present. They will also be better able to understand and appreciate connections with the world community. Social Studies courses provide the perfect opportunity for discourse and discussion, small group activities, Socratic seminars and enrichment. In the process of pursuing these educational goals, students will also develop effective research and writing skills, and will be able to access the latest in educational technology.
