CU DENVER SONGWRITING COMPETITION FINALISTS!

Congratulations to Juan Paredes '24 and Elise Kuhn '24 for qualifying as finalists in the University of Colorado - Denver's Colorado High School Songwriting Competition! Both Juan and Elise performed their original songs, Beautiful Soul and You Lied respectively, at the CU Denver King Center on March 11 at 3:30 pm where they each received an honorable mention. That's two consecutive years that Regis Jesuit has represented original music talent in our state. Last year, Addison Weissert '24 came in as runner-up for her song, Sticks & Stones.
Juan Parades '24 is a member of the Songwriters Club, a versatile musician and a stellar composer. In Juan's words, Beautiful Soul is "about finding yourself...written when I went on a mountain retreat. Being surrounded by nature and peace enabled me to be connected with myself again and inspired me to write this song. The song talks about how you should strive to be yourself and try not to be someone you aren't."

Club moderator Mr. Bernie Sauer '97 shares, "Juan can play any instrument he picks up and masters it. He pulled through for our Little Shop of Horrors Pit Band when we needed a drummer, and he continues to write original music in Songwriters Club. When he first performed Beautiful Soul for us, we knew instantly that it was going to be a hit."

In addition to being part of Songwriters Club, Elise Kuhn '24 is a proud member of our Regis Chorale and a gifted guitar player with studio musician composition experience. In her words, You Lied "is about how lies and truths can both come up in our lives. Lies might reoccur and might be better to use than the truth, but we know better."
