STUDENTS PROVIDE ARTWORK FOR NEW HOSPICE CARING FOR THE UNHOUSED

In late March, Georgia Meysman-Sharpe '23, her mother Johanna and art teachers Jennifer Meyerrose and Fr. Tom Rochford, SJ '64 delivered several paintings created by RJ artists to the newly-opened Rocky Mountain Refuge, a shelter providing hospice services to offer "a dignified alternative to dying alone on the street for those with terminal illness." Br. James Patrick "JP" Hall, a friar with the Brotherhood of St. Gregory, serves as the interim executive director of the organization and was seeking ways to make the center feel more welcoming. He contacted Regis Jesuit to see if our community could help and the Fine Arts department leapt at the chance to use their gifts for the greater glory of God.
The group that delivered the works had fun choosing which paintings to place next to each other. Br. JP was moved by the quality of the work in each of the seven pieces, He also noted how each of them depicts a journey—either on the water, through the trees or portraying a scene of natural beauty—that invites people in.

The first organization in Colorado solely focused on connecting people experiencing homelessness to hospice care, the Refuge opened its doors on March 3 and welcomed its first resident that same day. Our community is privileged to be part of such a wonderful example of Christian care for the most vulnerable among us.
