INSPIRE & IGNITE: STORIES FROM THE HEART OF REGIS JESUIT

DAVID CARD ′87: THE HEART OF A CHAMPION—MISSY RETURNS TO REGIS JESUIT

What a proud a gratifying moment this week when our most famous alumna, Missy Franklin ’13, came home for a visit. And despite the fact that we are talking about a six-time Olympic medal winner, five of those gold, Missy’s address to our students was not about her athletic achievements. Rather, it was about her humanity and vulnerability. Missy came to talk about her struggles with anxiety and depression–something many of our students know plenty about. About one in five teens today experience depression. ..READ FULL BLOG POST

FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS FOR 2019-20—DEADLINE APRIL 18
All Financial Aid awards are need-based at Regis Jesuit High School. We utilize the FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Application to determine the extent of need. A Financial Aid decision will be granted only to families who have completed the Assessment Application and had their income tax information verified. A portion of every Financial Aid grant awarded is in the form of an optional work-grant. Families applying for Financial Aid for the 2019-20 school year must complete the FACTS Grant & Aid application and send their completed 2018 tax return to FACTS by April 18, 2019.
Regis Jesuit has always required financial information from both custodial and non-custodial parents to be submitted when a family is requesting Financial Aid. We will consider exceptions to this policy which can be made in appropriate situations, typically when there is truly only one parent in the child’s life and only one parent provides financial support. If you are a single parent and need to request a waiver of a second parent’s information, please complete the Second Parent Information Waiver Request and submit to Bob Capstick, Controller.
Families currently receiving Financial Aid must re-apply each year with FACTS. CLICK HERE to review the requirements and start the process.
Please address additional questions directly to Bob Capstick or call 303.269.8048.

2019-20 COURSE REQUESTS VIEWABLE ON RAIDERNET
For one week only, from April 5-12, parents can view their student's requested courses for the 2019-20 school year on RaiderNet following the steps below. Please know that these are course requests only—this is NOT your student's schedule and there is no guarantee that your student will be placed into these courses. Completed schedules will be available mid-July.

  • Log into the Regis Jesuit website using your login credentials (you cannot use your student’s log-in credentials)
  • Click on PARENTS, then click on RAIDERNET on the left side navigation
  • In RaiderNet, click on REGISTRATION
  • Click on ENTER REQUESTS

Courses are viewable but are not editable. There is no need to hit the “approve” button on the page.
We ask that you take time to review the course selections, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your student’s school counselor or the respective Assistant Division Heads, Dana Bauer (Boys) or Ryan Williamson (Girls).

SENIOR DITCH DAY
Often during this time of year, we hear rumors about seniors planning a ditch day. If your student is planning an absence that is not for a legitimate reason, we strongly urge you to make it clear that you will NOT join in this endeavor by calling the Attendance Line to excuse them from school. Some things to consider:

  • Any student missing school (half of the day) for any reason cannot participate in after-school sports, clubs or activities. Coaches and moderators will be emailed a list of any students missing classes, and those students will not be allowed to practice or participate in games.
  • As outlined in the Student Handbook, “the Dean of Students will determine if absences from school are excused or unexcused. Unexcused absences (for example, but not limited to ditching) carry the penalty of three units of JUG per class period missed, and there is no privilege of makeup work.”

Thank you for your support in keeping your student on track through graduation.

TICKETS REQUIRED FOR BOYS GRADUATION CEREMONY
Senior boys and their parents are already aware that we had to institute a ticketing policy for
this year's Boys Division Graduation Ceremony as the Ellie Caulkins Opera House only seats 2200. We
need the entire community to understand that nobody will be admitted without a ticket. There
is no "standing room only" section. Senior boys will be allotted eight tickets each, so anyone who
hopes to attend should plan to be included in a senior boy's family's allocation. We appreciate your understanding.

CAMP MAGIS IS HIRING CURRENT RJ JUNIORS
Regis Jesuit High School is partnering with St. Therese and St. Rose Catholic Schools this summer for the third annual Camp Magis, a summer camp/summer school program for middle school students. The two-week summer camp (June 17-28) focuses on improving reading, writing and math skills in a camp environment that also includes a summative project. Camp Magis is needing students to assist the teachers, lead activities and support an innovative curriculum. This is a paid position open to current RJ juniors. For questions please contact Mrs. Catherine Cole.

SECURITY TEAM NO LONGER DIRECTING TRAFFIC
After Spring Break, the RJ Security Team is no longer providing traffic assistance before and after school at the Girls Division entrance. This decision was difficult to make but necessary because of the many distracted drivers, speeders and those not adhering to the lane restrictions or traffic signs. These conditions have led to numerous situations where our security personnel have been endangered and had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. With security no longer providing traffic assistance, we urge our community to exercise the utmost caution when driving to and from the Regis Jesuit campus and follow the posted speed limits. Security personnel will be providing occasional traffic assistance on school property.

ARRUPE CLUBS COLLECTING NEW AND GENTLY-WORN SHOES AND BACKPACKS
The donated shoes will be distributed to Soles4Souls’ micro-enterprise programs that create jobs in Haiti, Honduras and other developing nations. The micro-enterprise model provides individuals the ability to start small businesses by providing a steady supply of high-quality, low-cost product. They also give a second life to unwanted shoes, keeping them out of landfills and protecting the environment. Visit soles4souls.org for more information.
We are also collecting some new or gently-used backpacks to donate to the homeless served by Christ in the City.
By April 29, bring your new or gently-worn shoes of any kind (keep the pairs together – please tie them, rubber band them or bag them) and new or gently-used backpacks to the collections boxes in the BD and GD Tradition Halls. Thank you!

RJ MOMS LENTEN REFLECTION AND LUNCHEON—APRIL 16
Regis Jesuit moms of all faith traditions are invited to join us for the annual Lenten Reflection and Lunch on Tuesday, April 16, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm. We will celebrate Mass in the St. John Francis Regis Chapel in the Boys Division, followed by some time for reflection and the Stations of the Cross as seen through the eyes of Mary. This day is a powerful way for us to contemplate and enter into the mystery of Jesus’ gift of himself to us. It takes the reflection on the Passion of Christ out of our heads and into our hearts. We will end our time together by enjoying lunch in the Houlihan Conference Room located in the Girls Division. Please RSVP and sign up to bring something for the potluck. All moms are welcome, both current and past!

There will be coffee and donuts to help give sleepy students a boost. Students should come in Raider Day wear and will be allowed to stay in their dressed-down state for the remainder of the school day.
