ALL SCHOOL NEWS

NEWS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OUR GUATEMALA SERVICE DELEGATION
You likely have heard that the Fuego volcano in Guatemala began erupting on Sunday. You may also be aware that we have a delegation of girls who left for Guatemala last Saturday for a service immersion trip. We wanted to assure our community that the group is safe. The location where the students are serving was changed to move them to an area not under any evacuation or imminent threat. Our administrators have been in regular contact with the agency we are working with in Guatemala and trip chaperones to monitor the conditions to ensure the continued health and safety of our delegates, and are communicating directly with the parents of those on the trip. The girls continue to post a daily recounting of what they are doing on the blog, which you can find here: www.regisjesuit.com/gdguatemala. The airport in Guatemala is open, so we expect the group to continue with the trip and return to the U.S. next Tuesday, June 12 as planned. As a school community, let us join in prayer for all of our students currently participating in service immersion experiences, as well as those with whom they are working and for all affected by the eruption in Guatemala.

SUMMER SCHEDULE FOR THE RED & WHITE
The Red & White will be published once a month in June and July. Look for it in your inbox again on July 6. The due date for submissions for the summer issues remains the preceding Tuesday at noon. The normal weekly schedule will resume on August 3.

SUMMER OFFICE HOURS AND STAFF AVAILABILITY
We would advise anyone planning to come to campus during the summer months to either email or call ahead of time to ensure the person you need will be available.

SECOND SEMEMSTER REPORT CARDS AVAILABLE
The second semester grading period ended with the semester final exam on Friday, May 25, 2018. Report cards are now available for viewing on RaiderNet. To view and print the online report card, login to RaiderNet, click on (Your Student's Name) Grades and click on Report Card.

SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENTS
Summer assignments have been posted at www.regisjesuit.com/summerreading. Please check the page often as updates will be made. Summer assignments should be completed before school begins in August. Any work associated with an assignment should be printed and brought to the first day of classes unless otherwise stated in the specific assignment document.

RACE TO READ SUMMER READING CHALLENGE
All students (including incoming freshmen), faculty and staff are invited to take the Race to Read Summer Reading Challenge, sponsored by the libraries. Reading and being active are all part of running the race in our 2018 Marathon-themed challenge. As you read and do activities this summer, enter them in the online form and watch your progress on the online honor roll. Read even one book beyond your required reading list and you will be entered into the Summer Reading Challenge!
Click summerread.rjhslibrary.info to view the honor roll, get an overview of the rules AND to enter your reading and summer activities. Please send any questions to library@regisjesuit.com and one of the librarians will get back to you as soon as possible.

RAIDERQUEST—SUMMER COURSE FOR INCOMING STUDENTS IS OPEN
On June 5, the required ONLINE summer course entitled RaiderQuest opened for all incoming students. The course will give students an orientation and teach the skills they will need to succeed with technology at Regis Jesuit. RaiderQuest will also be where incoming freshmen will complete a portion of their summer reading assignment. All assignments in the course are due by August 7. If you missed the April 24 Course Verification & Technology Night and did not attend the makeup date on May 1, you will not have access to this course. Please contact kramos@regisjesuit.com for assistance. To access the RaiderQuest course, incoming students should complete the following steps:

  1. Go to rjhs.instructure.com.
  2. Enter username/ID. The username/ID is what precedes the @student.regisjesuit.com in your email address. For example, if my email is regisjf@student.regisjesuit.com, my ID would be regisjf.
  3. The password is the same one you created for your Regis Jesuit email. If you forgot your password, go to https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com.
  4. This video will help remind the students how to access their course.

There are optional drop in RaiderQuest help sessions offered throughout the summer:

  • June 7, 9:00 am-12:00 pm, Boys Library
  • June 22, 9:00 am-12:00 pm, Boys Library

SCHOOLMESSENGER: MAKE SURE YOU ARE SET TO RECEIVE BROADCASTS
We use SchoolMessenger to alert parents, students, faculty and staff via text and voice message of unscheduled late starts or closures of the school due to weather. We also use the system for other critical/emergency and attendance notifications. We continue to use the system as a primary means of communication for athletics and activities during the school year and throughout the summer. Incoming families will be added to our SchoolMessenger reverse communications software on June 11. Members of the class of 2018 and their parents will remain in the system until the end of July to help facilitate continued communication with those involved in activities this summer. To ensure that you receive messages from the SchoolMessenger system, please verify your profile information on the Regis Jesuit website, especially if you have had any changes to your phone numbers and/or email addresses.
Incoming Parents and Students: Opt-in for Text Messages. You should receive an automated text from the SchoolMessenger system on June 11 asking you to opt-in to receive text alerts from the school. Reply Y to that message. If you do not receive the automated text, please follow these instructions (you must log in to the website to access them). If you already are opted in, you don't need to do it again.
All Parents and Students: Don’t Unsubscribe from Email Messages. Please note that if you unsubscribe using the option in the footer of any of the email messages sent from the system, you will unsubscribe from ALL emails sent via SchoolMessenger, including emergency messages. If you are getting broadcasts from a team or activity that you no longer wish to receive notifications about, please contact that group directly and ask for your student to be removed from the list in lieu of opting out. If you have accidently opted out, contact communications@regisjesuit.com, and we can remove your email address from the blocked list.
If you have any questions about the SchoolMessenger system, please contact communications@regisjesuit.com.

UPDATE ON FOOD SERVICE FOR 2018-19
We announced in February that Flik Independent School Dining has been selected to operate the school’s food service program starting with the 2018-19 school year. Expectations for our food service program have steadily increased over the years, and Flik has the resources and expertise to meet those expectations. Over the past few months, some questions have come up that we can easily answer.

  • Prices will remain close to the current prices.
  • Flik will prepare the vast majority of food and very few outside vendors will be used. The RJ cookies will remain, and Flik will introduce a wider variety of other cookies. Chick-fil-A will no longer be offered, and Flik has accepted our challenge to create an even better and healthier chicken sandwich.
  • Flik would like to keep parent volunteers and work grant students involved with the food service program as a way to build community and have the parents provide meaningful service to the school and students. If you did not volunteer in the cafeteria last school year and would like to volunteer next school year, please send an email to Rick Sullivan, rsullivan@regisjesuit.com, expressing your interest and include the division your child attends and year in school. You will be contacted over the summer for more information.
  • Seniors will continue to have their off-campus privileges.
  • There is a rumor in the community that the school is going to an all-inclusive lunch in 2019-20 that will drastically increase tuition. The school has not made any decision about the future and wants to make sure that the retail operation next year is of high quality. Flik is able to offer a reasonably priced all-inclusive lunch option in the future, if desired. If this option is considered, all parents will be notified, and their feedback will be solicited before any decision is made.

BUY 2018 ROCKIES TICKETS TO SUPPORT REGIS JESUIT
Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, we have tickets for a wide range of Colorado Rockies home games for purchase by any member of the RJ community. All proceeds from ticket sales will be used to support the Inspire & Ignite Fund. Seats can be purchased for individual games throughout the season, with a minimum purchase of two and a maximum of four tickets per game. Ticket purchases are not tax deductible. Seats have relocated this year to the Infield Club Level located in Section 227 (just to the right of home plate); Row 7; Seats 12-15. Tickets will be sold at face value with pricing for majority of games between $35 and $52 a ticket, depending on the game. One “Lot A” parking pass is also available for each game for an additional $16. To reserve your seats or for more information, contact the Advancement Office at advancementoffice@regisjesuit.com or 303.269.8029.

UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE TO REGIS JESUIT
A donor who is relocating recently donated two full casket crypts located in the sold-out chapel at the Tower of Memories in the Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery (W 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO). Proceeds from the sale of these crypts will be contributed to Regis Jesuit’s endowment for financial aid. Please contact Glenn Churchill ‘69, Planned Giving & Major Gifts Officer, at gchurchill@regisjesuit.com or 303.269.8041 for pricing and to learn more.

SAVE THE DATE FOR DAY FOR OTHERS—SEPTEMBER 8
Day for Others is designed to bring the multiple facets of the community of Regis Jesuit High School—students, alumni, parents, faculty, friends—together in the shared experience of prayer and service to the people of God in the Denver area. Nearly 1100 people joined us for the sixth annual event in September 2017—the largest service event ever sponsored by the school in its 140-year history! Save the date and plan to serve with us at the Seventh Annual RJ Day for Others—September 8, 2018! It is a great way to begin the new school year and get to know other families at Regis Jesuit. Registration will open in August. For more information on the event, visit www.regisjesuit.com/dayforothers.

SAVE THE DATE FOR THE RUDY CUP—SEPTEMBER 20
All parents, past parents, alumni and friends of Regis Jesuit are invited to join us for The Rudy Cup: Regis Jesuit's Annual Community Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at The Ridge at Castle Pines. Proceeds benefit the Rudy Brada Memorial Scholarship. Player registration starts at $160 (single player) and $640 (foursome). Underwriting starts at $500. Sponsorships start at $1000. We are anticipating a sold-out field of 132 golfers, providing wonderful potential for positive public relations and marketing extended to supporters of the event. Contact us to secure an underwriting or sponsorship opportunity today! Player registration will open in July.

REGIS JESUIT 2020: A SHARPER VISION

NEW ADMINISTRATIVE STRUCTURE IS IN EFFECT
From David Card ’87, President
I wanted to inform our community that our new administrative structure officially went into place on June 4. The team has already begun the work of addressing priorities outlined for the restructure and preparing for the successful start of next school year. Our new principal, Jimmy Tricco, will arrive August 1. In the interim, questions that would have been addressed by the principals in the past can be directed to Karen Wuertz in the Boys Division and Tim Bauer ’88 in the Girls Division.
I am extremely excited to be at this point in our transformation and gratified and grateful for the good work of both those who got us to this point and those who will carry us forward. We appreciate your support and ask for your ongoing prayers that the transition continues to move forward smoothly and successfully.

UPDATE FROM THE TRANSITION LEADERSHIP TEAM 06.08.18
From Karen Wuertz, TLT Chair
With the new structure now in place, the TLT will shift its focus to support the new administrative team and determine how else the group can ensure the continued successful progress of the transition. The group got an update from the ELC on their current priorities and the status on work to streamline processes identified as being different or potentially inequitable and provided feedback as needed. The group also began discussing ideas for Mr. Tricco’s arrival on campus to help him engage fruitfully with faculty, parents and students, and will be formulating a recommendation for him on how to best approach that. The TLT will continue to meet regularly throughout the summer.

ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES UPDATE

SIGN UP FOR THE PERFORMANCE TRAINING PROGRAM
We are excited to continue our Performance Training Program here at Regis Jesuit. Landow Performance has partnered with us to provide a unique opportunity to our entire student body (including incoming freshmen). This program allows our student-athletes to get the very best training year-round, in-season and off-season, on campus at Regis Jesuit. The cost to participate is $195 per year per student for participation from June through the following May. For this program to be successful, it is necessary for all students in all athletic programs at all levels to participate. We are encouraging 100% participation. Although we cannot make this mandatory, this is a great opportunity for our teams to make great advances. Though this program is focused on athletes, any student can register to participate. Registration and payment are available online at www.regisjesuit.com/performancetraining. If you have forgotten your username and/or password, please use the Forgotten Password link at the bottom of all login screens.

SUPPORT RJ FACULTY AS THEY SUPPORTS SAMARITAN HOUSE
Catholic Charities Team Samaritan House Cycling began seven years ago with six riders whose goal was to help raise awareness of the need to fight homelessness in the Denver metro area. Each year the team has grown in riders and passion. This year, more than 100 riders are expected to participate in team rides, including Regis Jesuit staff members Adam Dawkins ‘98 (participating in his third Ride the Rockies for Team Samaritan House), Tim Bauer ‘88, Joe Lagan and Bruce Raymond. On June 10, many of the riders, including Adam Dawkins and Tim Bauer, will embark on Ride the Rockies, traveling 420 miles and climbing over 25,000 feet through the Rocky Mountains in six days. Over the past seven years, Team Samaritan House has raised more than $500,000 to provide clothing, shelter and a fresh start for individuals and families facing homelessness. The team’s goal is to reach one million dollars. The ultimate goal of all of Catholic Charities' shelters is to help residents become self-reliant by providing needed individualized assistance to transition them out of homelessness. Read more about our RJ riders on their rider pages: Adam Dawkins '98, Tim Bauer '88, Joe Lagan and Bruce Raymond.
