STUDENTS ATTEND SPECIAL PRESENTATION ON YOUTH RADICALIZATION AND VIOLENT EXTREMISM

In her captivating and enlightening presentation on youth radicalization and violent extremism, she shared how the cultivation and recruitment of radical extremists have changed in recent years, much of it operating via social media channels. Understanding our young adults have greater exposure and experience in newer social media and technology landscapes, she encouraged our younger generation to work together as a community to recognize and prevent the spreading of radical materials which oftentimes use religion as a catalyst for extremism. Attendees also had the opportunity for Q&A, learning how they can engage with their faith, spirituality and conviction to help deter and interrupt radicalization and how to be a part of the interruption.

Dr. Miller-Idriss is the founding director of the Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab at the American University in Washington, D.C., where she also serves as a professor in the School of Public Affairs and School of Education. She regularly testifies before Congress on trends in domestic violent extremism and strategies for prevention and disengagement, and she often appears and writes for mainstream media sources to share her expertise. Uniquely, Dr. Miller-Idriss is a globally recognized expert on the strategies used to recruit and radicalize youth, as well as preventative interventions for maintaining youth safety.
