Day 1 in Denver!

Colin Downs,
We have arrived at 1732 N Pearl St; a soft rain accompanies the cool fall weather in Downtown Denver as we reflect on seeing God in the city. We look forward to the week and prepare our hearts for the children at Tennyson.
A series of reflections from Beau, James, and Evan:

Beau:
Today was a regular Sunday. I woke up, went to mass, then had a baseball tournament. I arrived at the house at 5 pm and then played hacky sack and made dinner with James and Christopher. We made tacos with tomatoes and rice. Tomorrow I am most excited to meet the kids and be welcomed into the Tennyson community. I am anxious to see how the kids will react with new members of their community. I am hoping I will be accepted early and seen as a friend to them. This week especially, I need God to support me in staying optimistic through challenges I know I will face and supporting me through positive moments. This week my focus is to stay optimistic and positive no matter what may happen in my day. I am super excited to see what tomorrow will bring me.

James:
Today was a good Sunday watching the Broncos beat the Eagles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was slightly nervous to see where I was staying and how everything was going to work out, but it has been great. We played hacky sack for about 20 minutes before going to cook food. Christopher, Beau, and I made tacos for everyone. I did the rice and put too much water in it, so it was a little sticky but still good. After dinner we played more hacky sack and then we did a reflection and now we are going to watch a movie. Something that will help me this week is bringing an open mind and preparing to understand whatever happens, being able to accept what comes your way. A couple things that I am anxious about for this week is what may happen or something that might be more challenging than others, like not being able to fully connect with somebody on the level I want to. But, I am really excited to be doing this with my friends and to be connecting with them outside of school. Something that I want from God this week is just to be able to trust him and know that wherever he puts me I will be able to handle it

Evan:
Today went better than I thought it would go. I went to church and watched the end of the Broncos vs Eagles game. Closer than I would like but a win is a win. I was a little anxious because I didn’t know what the place was going to be like and how the overall experience would go. We ended up having great bonding time playing Hacky Sack (a lot) and eating together. I got to eat the chicken and ground beef tacos/burritos James, Beau, and Christopher made (There was rice, but I didn’t eat it). Going into tomorrow I’m nervous about how it will turn out. It’s a new group of people so I don’t know what to expect. I’m going to try to go in with an open mind ready to simply be with the kids and help them in ways I can. I want God to give me courage so I can engage with the kids instead of just standing back and observing. I am excited to experience new things even if they are hard and different. New people means new opportunities. This week will change my perspective on many things about this community I’m going to interact with, and I’m excited to see it as it comes.

A new challenge awaits October 6th!!
