GUADALUPE, Casco Viejo and Panama Canal tour

Preston Strong '26
Today we woke up early and hopped on a bus to Casco Viejo. We then went to tour the Panama Canal and then we came back and went to mass.
We woke up to some delicious omelets, fruit, and fried dough with jelly. We then hopped on a bus, and we soon arrived in Casco Viejo. We toured much of the old city, and we then went to the Plaza Principal, and learned all about the history of Panama from settlement to current day. We walked around more, and we visited a memorial for all of the French people who died while trying to build the Panama Canal. Then we had some free time to explore the market and buy things, for example I bought a coconut, and they cut a little hole in it and I was able to drink out of it. I then had it chopped open, and I used a part of the coconut shell to scoop out and eat the coconut meat. We had a great lunch and celebrated Mr. Serpas' Birthday, then we headed on back to the bus to go to the Panama Canal. We got some more history about the dam, and we then watched a 3d movie which was very cool. Then it was pouring rain, and we got to see a ship go through the canal. I enjoyed sitting in the rain and watching the ship pass on by. We then came back and had chicken and fideo for dinner, then we walked to mass. The whole mass was in Spanish, and it was about putting others above ourselves. Then we walked back to our rooms, and the view outside was very beautiful, specifically the lights of the city. I feel tired but I am beginning to have a lot of fun, and I am very excited to arrive in Guadalupe tomorrow and meet my host family.
