A SLICE OF COMMUNITY AND A LITTLE HOPE

G, Riley
Today was our third day at the Tennyson Center.
After our emotional reflection last night, we took time this morning to talk to Hope from the Tennyson Center. She answered any questions that we had and reassured us that it is not a unique experience to feel out of place the first few days volunteering at Tennyson; many of the volunteers have the same concerns as all of us do. She helped us ease our mind and allowed us to start our day on the right foot, so we weren’t overwhelmed with stress and unanswered questions as we all got dropped off at our rooms.

Rather than having a sit-down reflection time back at Casa Karibu, we had the privilege to be invited to the Colorado Vincentian Volunteers’ home for mass and dinner. They were warm and welcoming the minute we got there and gave us a great night to be in community with others. We started off the night with a beautiful mass upstairs in their house with Fr. Steve, where we sang, prayed, and celebrated a fast-paced traditional catholic mass. After mass, we all had Dominos pizza outside, and sat with the volunteers that live at the house. They told us about their college experiences, what brought them to Denver, where they are currently working, and more about their current lifestyle. It was so rewarding being able to be involved in their daily routine and sharing a laugh with others during a week where we constantly need to be emotionally present. Sorry about the hammock, Tome’s crew, we out.
