EPISODE 5 - SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST

August Berglind, James Christin, Mila Schneller, Emme Phillips
Hey party people, the final episode was the BEST!
Our snooze alarm woke us up at a late 7 am, followed by breakfast tacos. We stayed put and got the privilege to listen to Kent’s PowerPoint. We saw his artwork and learned about how his Catholic beliefs and his culture go hand in hand. He also told us that his ancestor’s artwork would sell for over five figures at auction, but he chose to keep his tradition alive for his kids.

Our journey then took us to a school mass where yo-yos were thrown, kids were laughing, and some even say that’s the most fun they have ever had at mass. We learned about the rich history of the school and got to see a refurbished room full of ceramics and kachinas.

Then we had lunch and had our second trail makeover of the trip. We split up into the hoe group, the rake group and the shovel group. We all had a role for the mile long trail. At the end of the trail was a hike which had lots in store…loose rocks, art, and lots of mud. We learned about the 400-year-old Native artwork. And after all our trail work, we were rewarded with a two-snack limit at Sinclair. Safe to say that they disappeared in 10 minutes.

We then had dinner made for us including homemade fresh bread and salsa by our host, Shannon, followed by some chaotic hacky sack. As the evening came to a close, there was a house fire a mile away while one of the council members spoke to us. We had a beautiful final circle where we all went around and were vulnerable with one another talking about connections we’ve made on this trip.

Hasta la vista, see you tomorrow, pardon our stench. 😊
