TEGUCIGALPA - DAY 3

Emery Anderson + Chloe Chism
Spent more time in the community and explored downtown!
So first we had breakfast and I had a muffin thing with some fruit (Emery) and Chloe had pancakes and toast. Then we went to the community and cooked 300 meals which included rice, tortillas, a dessert and two drinks. Then, we went in the truck and drove to the trash dump. It was like nothing I'd ever seen before. I was talking to Frank about it all and he'd explained that he had been up there many times, and has never gotten used it to. I don't know how anyone could. The people these try and find valuable items to sell in order to make money to support themselves. There were vultures everywhere.  Being there is unexplainable. The gravity of it all can only be realized if you're there yourself. Then we came back and I taught 2 girls, Daniella and Wendy, English.  I'm loving this experience soooo much but I miss you mom and dad and Tay and I and Ry of course! - Emery

After we left the community, we headed into the heart of Tegucigalpa and Honduras. First stop Downtown was the childhood home of Francisco Morazan, a famous president and military leader of Honduras. We got to hear about his story and the impact he had on Honduran history. Next, we headed to an ice cream store, where we all got to enjoy a sweet treat to finish off the day. Then we headed back to the hotel to relax and eat dinner. It was a very busy but very impactful day where we got to see the reality of these communities and also make a difference in someone's day. Giving the food we cooked to the workers in the dump was extremely gratifying and an experience we will never forget. We can't wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us! - Chloe (love you mom & dad).
Teachers edit:  Big shout out to the students who helped build 15 desks for the children in the community today (especially Luke)!
