Immersion Experience: Denver

WHAT I'M TAKING WITH ME

EJ, Declan, Reed
The one where we say goodbye.
What I’m Taking With Me

EJ- What I’m going to take with me is the ability to live in the moment. The kids that I have hung out with all week can do this really well. They all seem to enjoy being with each other and talking with one another. This ability is something that I can use in my own life, because I’m constantly looking forward and not paying attention to my current situation. Learning this is something that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Declan- What I’m going to take away is the ability to give kids chances to succeed. Most of the kids at Tennyson are dealing with something so big that it makes life a lot tougher for them. I’ve been able to see however that if you give them a chance they can shine. In my room 201,  I’ve played a lot of football with Warden and he’s pretty talented and has quite an arm. I’ve also seen that if you give some kids the time and patience to read and write that they have some awesome and talented abilities.

Reed- What I want to take with me from this immersion is being able to connect with kids on a deeper level and being able to understand them. I want kids to be comfortable to share with me their emotions not just as someone to talk to but as a friend. Most people these days overlook the less fortunate but being able to connect with them and not just judge them, has changed the way I think and the way I perceive the world. I want kids to have the ability to showcase their ability and not keep it hidden, because all it takes is one opportunity for kids to get out of their comfort zones.
