Immersion Experience: Dominican Republic

WELCOME TO THE CAMPO

McKenna Deatherage
Today, we arrived at the Campo and met some of the host families!
Today waking up and went to breakfast to eat some delicious food, then had a cultural meeting about the history of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. In this meeting, we learned about the tensions and backgrounds with struggles both countries face. After this, we embarked on our journey and 2-hour drive to Campos, Calabacitos.

Opening the doors of the bus after arriving, we were greeted with friendly faces, yummy meals, cows, and roosters. For lunch, there was fresh chicken, salad, beans and rice, and a fruit salad. As a class, we all sat together and talked while eating, got to know each other and laughed.

Tonight, we will find out about our host families and the house we will stay in throughout our time on this experience.
