HONDURAS SAN PEDRO SULA - DAY 2

Ivy Hankins and Deion Cesario-Scott
The welcoming community of El Ocotillo
Today, we were welcomed into the kind-hearted community of El Ocotillo. As we stepped off the bus, we were greeted with our own decorated signs and big hugs from the community members. After the amazing welcome, we received an in-depth tour of the community and school that we were about to embark on. On this tour, we got to know the kids who have been impacted by International Samaritan and the future generations of this organization. The big takeaway from today was encounters, and those encounters were very welcoming and genuine. The community of El Ocotillo gave us their best that they had to offer, including handmade signs, amazing food, and countless smiles filled with joy. After our warm welcome, we explored the community's biggest source of employment and necessities- the dumpsite. As we ascended the mountain of trash, we passed families looking for things to sell, use, or eat. This was a very humbling and eye-opening encounter, and we can't wait to help out as much as we can throughout the rest of the week. Finally, we ended the day by prepping a classroom that will be installed with AC and windows later in the week, and playing soccer with our new friends in the community!
