Immersion Experience: Honduras

SAN PEDRO SULA - DAY 4

Mitzari and Taylor
Hamburger fundraiser, haircuts, soccer, and house repair
Hoy fue increíble! Today we spent lots of time with the families and continued our work on the house-rebuilding project. After breakfast at the hotel, we loaded up the bus to head to the community center in Ocotillo. We were greeted with hugs and kisses from the children and noticed that the moms had already set up the station to build hamburgers. Today, one of our projects was constructing hamburgers to sell in the community as a fundraiser for the nursery school. Everyone jumped into a different job, from cutting the onions to forming the patties. After making LOTS of hamburgers, we split up to spend time with the kids. A few girls even got haircuts or braids from girls and moms in the community! We then prepared a table full of donations (clothes, hygiene products, etc.) and got to help as kids came in with their families to collect some items. We ate a delicious lunch, then went with the kids to the soccer field in the community. After a very fun (and very chaotic) game, we returned to the house project to help construct walls and level the dirt to prepare the floor for concrete. We said our goodbyes for the day and headed back to the hotel, for some rest and a well-deserved dinner.
Today we felt the love within the community, and got to experience firsthand the connection and compassion from the families. Many kids gave Regis students tokens to remember our time in Honduras and asked us to add our names and fingerprints to a book so they can remember us, too! It was a super encouraging day filled with laughter and games, and getting to play soccer with the kids was such a gift. Although it can be discouraging seeing the conditions these families endure day to day, these moments full of energy and hope bring us so much joy. We cannot wait to see what adventures and memories tomorrow brings and are excited to share our journey with everyone at home! Miss you all, Mitzari and Taylor 🤍🫰<3
