We are a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory high school serving nearly 1700 young men and women in grades 9-12 in becoming Men and Women with and for Others.
With nearly 150 years of history behind us, we are a Roman Catholic educational community rooted firmly in the nearly 500-year-old model of Jesuit education, leading the way in preparing students for the 21st century.
Our unique educational model combines the advantages of single-sex instruction with opportunities for young men and women to collaborate, serve, pray and socialize together to form the whole person—mind, body and spirit.
The strength of Regis Jesuit is found in the depth and diversity of its broad community of students, parents and alumni who strengthen and share their gifts through a lifelong Raider experience.
The transformational student experience has been developed thanks to a long tradition of generous philanthropic support of our enduring educational mission.
Today was the first day of our ten day stay in Panama! We arrived at Casa de Retiro Monte Alverna early this morning and set expectations for the week.
While boarding the plane, many of us felt skeptical and nervous about traveling six plus hours away from our homes. This anxiety only heightened when most of us only got two hours of sleep. However, when we landed, everyone was delighted to see the green mountains (similar to Colorado because we have no snow right now (insert angry face)). After traversing through the airport and going to the wrong customs, we met up with two of the Amigos volunteers. Stepping out of the airport was a shock because the humidity hit us in the face. Whooo it is hot here, even with the shade. On the bus we were given oreos, cookies, and juice. My kind of breakfast (sorry mom and dad)!!! Everyone looked out the windows, trying to spot animals (I spotted an Iguana!) and stores we never knew existed. After forty minutes we arrived at Casa de Retiro Monte Alverna and ate a wonderful breakfast! Then we got our room keys, took a power nap, and relaxed. My friend was sure shocked when she turned on the shower, and it only blasted cold water! We both thought it was very refreshing though because we were so hot. Next, all of us gathered in a meeting room to discuss expectations for our stay and prepare for the camp we will be running. After another quick rest, we ate more food, including rice and stew that was delicious. At the end of the night, we met in the meeting room to do a reflection on our day. Mr. Tricco talked us through a breathing exercise and Mr. Serpas led us in an examen. Now, I am writing this blog and about to head to bed. Tomorrow we are exploring the city and Panama Canal!!! Hasta luego!
