DAY 2: SETTLING IN
Traveling to Zuni today - an adventure to say the least - and settling into our camp and Mass this evening.
We all woke up this morning with an excited feeling knowing today was our travel day to Zuni. We started off the morning with breakfast at base camp and quickly hit the roads. What was supposed to be a 4 hour car ride turned into nearly 7 hours on the road - being delayed by a parade in Shiprock, NM. While stopped and not moving in traffic we had the opportunity to get to know those in our vans better.
Once we arrived to Zuni we began to set up camp. We each met our tent buddies and assembled our tents together. The wind presented some challenges but we are proud to say we had camp up in under 30 minutes. We then met our amazing hosts who welcomed with nothing but kindness and connection!
We shared our diner with our hosts and departed for Mass. We were blessed with the generosity of Fr. McGuire from St. Anthony’s in Zuni who offered a vigil Mass for Sunday just for our group. Father, we learned, also wasn’t from here and has been here for 11 years coming from Scotland. After a lovely mass we headed back to camp and all gathered together to eat rice crispy treats and reflect on our days.
