RAIDERS SHINE ON THE CROSS COUNTRY STAGE
Congratulations to both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams on their outstanding performances at recent competitions. The Boys team earned a strong second-place finish at the Roadrunners Invitational at Washington Park on September 19, highlighted by Top 10 performances from Cooper McCloskey ’27 and Sean Morris ’27. Congratulations to all the Raiders who contributed to an impressive team effort. Meanwhile, 12 members of the Girls Varsity and JV teams traveled to California to compete in the prestigious Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, one of the largest and most competitive 3-mile meets in the nation, featuring nearly 20,000 athletes from across the country over two days. The Varsity squad rose to the occasion, finishing third out of 20 qualifying teams in a remarkable showing against elite national competition.
A special shoutout to Lucy Willits ’30, who placed 10th overall with an outstanding time of 18:38. She was joined by Makaela Schoonover ’29, Keira Butler ’28, Una Butler ’30 and Ashley Istvan ’27, all of whom broke the 20-minute mark and helped power the Raiders to a top three team finish. Adding to the excitement, varsity standout McKenna Groen ’29 competed in the elite Sweepstakes Race against many of the nation’s top runners. McKenna delivered an exceptional performance, placing 19th out of 262 competitors with a blazing time of 16:29.
The trip also provided an opportunity for faith and community, as the team attended Mass together on September 20 before joining in the parish Fiesta celebration.
Congratulations to all of our cross country athletes for representing Regis Jesuit with excellence, determination and Raider spirit. We are proud of the way you continue to compete with great heart and soul both on and off the course!
