  • A New Way To Support Students

Beginning January 1, 2027, eligible taxpayers can support student scholarships and receive a dollar-for-dollar federal income tax credit of up to $1,700 for an individual or $3,400 for a married couple filing jointly for qualifying cash contributions to an approved scholarship granting organization (SGO).

You can help at no cost to you! Dollars you would otherwise pay in federal income taxes can instead help provide scholarships and educational opportunities for students at K-12 schools in participating states, like Colorado.

This is a tax credit, not a charitable deduction. A deduction reduces your taxable income. A tax credit reduces your tax bill, dollar for dollar. Please consult with your tax advisor to determine your eligibility for this program.

  • Opening Doors Takes $10 Million in Scholarships Each Year

For one in three Regis Jesuit students, financial aid helps make an RJ education possible. Scholarships help families enroll and stay through graduation, bringing economic diversity and perspectives that enrich every student’s experience. Meeting this need sustainably and working toward a future where financial circumstances do not stand in the way of a Jesuit education are central to our mission.
WHAT THIS COULD MEAN FOR REGIS JESUIT FAMILIES

  • More manageable tuition increases
Budget relief could help moderate tuition increases for all families.

  • More families able to enroll and stay
Scholarships could help families access a Regis Jesuit education and sustain that experience through graduation.

  • Less pressure on the operating budget
A new source of support for scholarships could reduce reliance on operating dollars and free up funding for the school’s broader needs.

YOUR PARTICIPATION CAN HELP!
Tax credit scholarships offer a new source of support alongside annual and endowed scholarship giving, creating a more sustainable approach to financial aid. Your participation can help make this opportunity meaningful for Regis Jesuit students and families.

Frequently Asked Questions

For Supporters

List of 10 frequently asked questions.

  • What is a scholarship granting organization?

A scholarship granting organization, or SGO, is a state-approved 501c3 that receives qualifying contributions and uses those resources to provide scholarships for eligible K–12 students.
  • Why did Regis Jesuit start its own SGO?

Simply put, we saw an opportunity to do more for students and families. The Regis Jesuit Community SGO allows us to turn this new federal tax credit into additional scholarship resources, helping make a Regis Jesuit education accessible to more families now and in the future.

It also allows us to approach this opportunity in a way that is distinctly Regis Jesuit, grounded in our Catholic, Jesuit mission and a commitment to thoughtful, responsible stewardship.
  • How does this new tax credit work?

Beginning in 2027, eligible taxpayers may receive a dollar-for-dollar federal income tax credit of up to $1,700 for an individual or $3,400 for a married couple filing jointly for qualifying cash contributions to an approved SGO. Unlike a charitable deduction, a tax credit directly reduces your federal income tax liability.
  • Who can make a contribution?

Taxpayers with federal income tax liability may be eligible to participate, including parents, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni and friends of Regis Jesuit nationwide.

Individual circumstances vary, so donors should consult their tax professional regarding eligibility and tax treatment.
  • My state has not opted into the program. Can I still donate?

Yes. Eligible taxpayers in all 50 states can donate and be eligible for the dollar-for-dollar tax credit.  This is a federal tax credit, so you can donate to the scholarship granting organization of your choice and receive the benefit of the Federal Tax Credit, so long as you have sufficient Federal Tax Liability.

However, only states that have opted to participate in the program can award scholarships to eligible students attending school in their state. Colorado has opted in, so every qualifying student attending one of our schools can apply to receive a scholarship.
  • Does the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC) take funding away from public schools?

No. The Federal Scholarship Tax Credit does not redirect existing public school funding to private schools. Instead, it provides a federal income tax credit to eligible taxpayers who make qualifying contributions to approved scholarship granting organizations (SGOs). These organizations use contributions to provide scholarships for eligible K–12 students. It does not directly reduce state or local funding allocated to public schools.
  • Can I contribute and direct the scholarship to my own child?

No. Contributions cannot be directed to benefit a donor's own child or another specific individual.

SGOs retain independent discretion over scholarship awards in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Can I recommend Regis Jesuit as the benefiting school?

Yes. Donors may recommend Regis Jesuit High School as the intended beneficiary of an eligible contribution. The SGO retains independent discretion over scholarship awards in accordance with federal requirements and its policies.
  • What if I cannot use the full tax credit?

The federal tax credit is nonrefundable, meaning it cannot reduce your tax liability below $0. But any unused portion can be carried forward for up to five years. Ask a tax professional what amount fits your circumstances.
  • Are there other SGOs that support Regis Jesuit students?

Yes. In addition to the Regis Jesuit Community SGO, Regis Jesuit partners with ACE Scholarships, another established scholarship granting organization that supports educational access for students and families.

Donors may choose the SGO that works best for them. When giving through a partner SGO, donors can indicate Regis Jesuit as the intended benefiting school, subject to the SGO’s policies and federal requirements.

For Families

List of 3 frequently asked questions.

  • Who may qualify?

Students must meet federal eligibility requirements, including applicable household income requirements. Regis Jesuit families will continue to apply through the school's standard financial aid process, and eligible students may be matched with available scholarship resources as appropriate.
  • When can my family apply?

Applications for scholarships through the Regis Jesuit Community SGO are not yet open. We will be sharing more information about eligibility, the application process and timelines as the program develops. In the meantime, Regis Jesuit families should continue to follow the school's established financial aid application process.
  • Does this replace Regis Jesuit's existing financial aid?

No. Scholarships provided through the SGO are intended to supplement, not replace, Regis Jesuit's existing financial aid resources.

The goal is to expand the overall pool of assistance available to families and strengthen long-term access and affordability.
