Immersion Experience: Denver

Day Two--Our First Day at the Tennyson Center!

Carmen Hirst
Today was our first day working with the students at the Tennyson Center
Today was our first day working with the students at the Tennyson Center and I think it was quite shocking and maybe even jarring for most, if not all of us. We were all placed in different classrooms, ranging from Kindergarten to High School Seniors in the on-track classrooms and the Tennyson Center’s ASPEN program classrooms. Teachers and other faculty were super welcoming and included us as much as they could, even if schedules may change due to different circumstances. Students were also welcoming, sharing different parts of their lives with us and vice versa. In today’s experience, I think a lot of us have learned to cherish the beautiful moments with the students because those moments can also quickly escalate. Reflecting back on today, we have all come to agreement that we should push ourselves more out of our comfort zone and grow the relationships we have made today in the days to come.
