Immersion Experience: New Mexico

DAY 1: ARRIVING AT BASECAMP

Kate Denlinger ‘26, Daniel Laucella ‘26 and Otylia Martino ‘26
Our travel day to the Mancos basecamp, birthday celebrations, and more!
Stepping off the tarmac, we were so excited to embark on our immersion journey to the Zuni reservation. We had much anticipation and excitement for what was to come. During the short drive to Mancos we were able to disconnect and bond with our classmates in a way we were unable to before; without distraction and with full presence.

Arriving at base camp and being surround by the mountains warmed in the afternoon sun and a herd of cows grazing among the grass we played games and laughed with the properties dog, Nayak. The rain kept coming in and out, allowing us time outside and within the cozy living room of the house.

We had a delicious dinner, and ended it with a celebration of Daniel Laucella’s birthday with delectable brownies! We circled up for reflection of the day and what’s to come, finding community and vulnerability within the circle. We talked about my pride within our families and sang some songs to end the night.
