Cale Woodley '16
Cale Daniel Woodley '16, son of Hockey Coach and RJ teacher Dan Woodley, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, in Palm Coast, Florida where he had recently relocated in order to continue his life journey.
Cale was born on March 15, 1998, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, and is survived by his father, Dan, mother, Faye (Midgley) Woodley and big brother, Grant. He also has a large extended family in Colorado, Michigan and Canada. His twin flame, Shelby Robinson, has been the love of his life since they met at age 14 and was with him in Florida. Cale would also want us to recognize his other love, Teddy, the puppy he saved and adopted while living in St. Croix.
Cale graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado in 2016 where he participated in numerous service projects and played hockey for three seasons. He won many championships and was most proud of being part of the Regis Jesuit teams that won the 2015 National Title and the 2016 Colorado State Championship Title. During Cale’s hockey career, his father, Dan, was his head coach and his uncle, Terry Ott his assistant coach. Dan and Terry are now in their 16th year leading the Regis Jesuit hockey program. Shane Ott will forever share the memory of winning the 2016 State Championship with his cousin Cale.
Athletic and strong, Cale climbed before he could walk and was skating by the time he was three. Throughout his hockey career, he played across North America with a creative flair that struck fear in his opponents’ hearts. He was a force on the ice with great speed, true grit and unparalleled vision.
Adventure was exhilarating to Cale. He traveled extensively with his family to Mexico and throughout Europe and Canada. After graduating from high school, Cale and Shelby moved to St. Croix for a year. Behind his tough exterior, Cale was a beautiful young man and pursued love with an artistic soul. His sense of humor was pure wit and when you eventually caught the joke, his telling smile made it to his eyes and lit up the room. He was a fun-loving charmer who lived life to the fullest.
A Memorial Mass for Cale will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 2:30 pm in the Blessed Rupert Mayer Chapel of Regis Jesuit High School (see map for location and most-accessible parking on campus). There will be a reception immediately following the Mass in the Girls Division cafeteria.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Cale's memory to Regis Jesuit High School. Contributions made in honor of Cale will be used to provide financial aid to deserving RJ students.
