2021 Tryout Information
Regis Jesuit High School Boys Golf
Dear Golfers and Parents,
Thank you for your interest in the Golf Program at Regis Jesuit. We have maintained a high standard of excellence on the course, but more importantly in the character development of our young men. Being a member of the team is a great honor and privilege.
The final roster will include approximately 20 golfers, but the expectation is that older golfers will need to shoot progressively lower scores to make the team. We reserve at least four spots for incoming freshmen, and normally the cut line is between 88 and 90 strokes per round for freshmen. Any freshman in the top 4, or who shoots 180 or better over two days will make the team. Sophomores historically need to shoot in the low to mid-80s, Juniors around 80, and Seniors in the high 70’s. These numbers vary from year to year, but that’s a sound gauge to go by.
After 36 holes of tryouts, the initial Varsity squad will consist of the 5 golfers with the lowest scores. However, the team is not sharply divided along Varsity, JV, or freshmen lines. The team practices together, and stroke averages will be tabulated on an ongoing basis through the year. Thus, each golfer will have an opportunity to move up the ladder.
The season commences immediately after tryouts with tournaments that will occur in advance of the first day of school. Practices normally are held after school, Monday-Thursday each week. Tournaments and practices begin to wind down for most golfers in mid-September, though the top 4 will continue competing through early October with the State Tournament.
Here is the information for tryouts this year:
Mon, August 2nd Wellshire GC (cut line at 100 strokes after round 1)
Tues, August 3rd Common Ground GC
If you are interested in trying out, email me to secure a spot at your earliest convenience.
Should you narrowly miss the squad, you will be invited to compete in an after-school Developmental League that consists of practices and tournaments with students from other area schools. We have had several young men go this route, develop their game, and ultimately make the squad in later years.
On behalf of Coaches Schilling and Cropper, best wishes on your time at Regis Jesuit.
