    USA Lacrosse announced its list of the top high school athletes for the 2021-22 season. Congratulations to the four members of the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team on earning All-American and All-Academic distinctions. George Bowdouris '22, Fletcher Sullivan '23 and Logan White '22 each received All-American honors, recognizing the best in the nation in skills, techniques, game sense and sportsmanship.     SWIM & DIVE TEAM MEMBERS SELECTED TO ALL-AMERICAN TOP 100 LIST

    Congratulations to the members of the Boys and Girls Swim & Dive Teams on earning ranks on the Colorado National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) All-American and Academic All-American lists for 2021-22. NISCA recognizes the top 100 verified times from across the country that achieve a certain standard time or score in each event as All-Americans. The Boys Swim & Dive Team received three relay and one individual All-American honor, and the Girls Swim & Dive Team took home two relay and three individual honors. Nine senior Raiders were selected to the NISCA Academic All-American list by maintaining a 3.75-grade point average after seven semesters. Great job, Raiders!

    BUTCH LEWIS '06 STRESSES MAKING THE MOST OF THE OPPORTUNITIES PRESENTED

    Great Raider Wendell "Butch" Lewis '06 shared his experience of navigating the opportunities offered to him as an athlete with attendees at the Strike Zone Academy football camp. One of the most sought-after prep football players in the country, Lewis went to USC where he played offensive lineman and was named to the 2007 Freshman All-American second team. From experience, Lewis knows how short an NFL career can be and wants to stress to the camp attendees the importance of earning a college degree and taking advantage of the opportunities presented to prep athletes.

    In a special ceremony in The Z Theatre on Tuesday, July 12, Dallas Macias '22 was presented the Freddie Steinmark Award by Sammy, Freddie's brother, and Dan Watkins, president of the Colorado High School Coaches Association. In front of his family, friends and baseball and football coaches and teammates, Dallas received the award, which honors the memory Steinmark and is given to the top male and female athletes in the state who best exemplify hard work, outstanding athleticism and high character both on and off the field, with the humble grace he is known for.

    Congratulations to Great Raiders Missy Franklin '13 and Fran Belibi '19 on being recognized as two of the top most influential women in Colorado sports history. Honoring the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, The Denver Post ranked the top 50 female athletes in Colorado based on the combination of their athletic achievement and impact on women’s athletics. Franklin, topping the chart in second place, is a five-time Olympic gold medalist in swimming and former world record holder in the 200-meter backstroke. Belibi, placing 10th, is going into her senior year at Stanford, where she earned the national NCAA Women's Basketball Championship title in 2021 and continues to dominate on the court.   • DALLAS MACIAS '22 SELECTED AS GATORADE COLORADO PLAYER OF THE YEAR

    Congratulations to Dallas Macias '22 of the Boys Varsity Baseball Team on being selected as the Gatorade Colorado Player of the Year for 2021-22. Macias led the team with a .551 batting average, .632 on-base percentage and a 1.01 slugging percentage. He also was the team leader in hits, runs scored and doubles for the season. For more than 30 years, the Gatorade Player of the Year program has recognized the nation’s most elite high school student-athletes, including past winners such as Peyton Manning, Abby Wambach, Jayson Tatum, Elena Delle Donne and numerous other sports icons. This prestigious title is based not only on outstanding athletic excellence but also on high academic achievement and exemplary character. All state winners are in the running to be selected for the Gatorade National Player of the Year title to be announced later in June. Way to go, Dallas - we are proud of you!

    STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FOR GIRLS GOLF

    Congratulations to Head Coach Charles Rutenbeck and the Girls Golf Team on their 11th place finish at the 2022 Class 5A State Golf Tournament held May 31-June 1 at The Olde Course at Loveland. Ella Denslow '23 had a strong performance and led the team finishing in a tie for the 36th spot. Following close behind in 45th was Audrey Whitmore '25 who had a great first season with the team and the lowest score of the tournament, shooting an 87 on day two. Teammates Caitlin Neumann '23 and Georgia Meysman-Sharpe '23 also played well and placed 48th and 62nd respectively. Excellent job, Raiders.

    VARSITY BASEBALL'S STATE BID CUT SHORT

    Despite a strong and consistent offense throughout the game, including a late two-run homer by Isaac Waschmann '22 in the seventh inning, the top-seeded Raiders ended their bid in the 2021-22 Class 5A State Championship series with a disappointing 10-6 loss to seventh-seeded Cherokee Trail on Saturday, May 28 at All City Stadium. Errors early in the game allowed the Cougars to get a large 10-2 lead after the third inning. The Raiders mounted a strong comeback, aided by three scoreless innings by senior pitcher Nate McHugh '22, but were unable to gain the lead. The team lost to Douglas County 5-4 in the first game of the tournament but came back to beat Valor Christian 4-1 in their second game before being eliminated in the series by Cherokee Trail. Congratulations to Head Coach Matt Darr and the Boys Varsity Baseball Team on an impressive season, finishing with an overall record of 23-5. We are proud of you!

    Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Baseball Team on garnering their Regional title on home turf on Sunday, May 22. The Raiders earned an 8-3 win against Bear Creek in their first game. They then went on to win the Championship game against the Horizon Hawks by a score of 4-0. The team advances to the Final 8 round of the 2021-22 CHSAA 5A Baseball Championships happening this Friday and Saturday, May 27-28. Come out and cheer on the team as they take on No. 8 Douglas County on Friday, May 27 at 9:00 am at All City Stadium in Denver. The winner of that game will play again at 2:00 pm that afternoon.   • BOYS SWIM & DIVE WINS 23RD STATE CHAMPIONSHIP

    The Raiders did it again! For the 23rd time in school history, the Boys Varsity Swim & Dive Team took home the championship title on Saturday, May 14 at the Class 5A Boys Swimming State Meet at Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center. With strong event showings from the entire roster, the team finished with an overall score of 467, comfortably beating longtime rivals and two-time defending State Champion Cherry Creek by a total of 64 points. The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Gio Aguirre '22, Mack Dugan '22, Ronan Krauss '23 and Hawkins Wendt '23 celebrated their first-place win and State title. In addition, the Raiders took second place in the 100-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay, and placed third in the 200-yard medley relay and 100-yard backstroke. Head Coach Nick Frasersmith earned his third State Championship with the team and was selected as the 5A Coach of the Year. Excellent performance, Raiders. We are proud of you!

    In a last-second 11-10 upset loss on Friday, May 13 to No. 4 Cherry Creek, the No. 5 Girls Lacrosse Team ended their run in the Quarterfinal round of the 2021-22 CHSAA Class 5A Girls Lacrosse State Championships tournament. The Raiders held a 7-6 lead at the end of the first half, but after an incredible back-and-forth battle in the second, were just one point down from forcing the game into overtime.     The Girls Varsity Soccer Team suffered a disappointing season-ending loss on Friday, May 13 in Round Two of the 2021-22 CHSAA 5A Girls Soccer State Playoffs. The No. 18 Raiders played well throughout the game, holding No. 1 Valor Christian to a 1-1 tie until the end of regulation, forcing the game into overtime.     Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Tennis Team on their ninth-place finish at the 2021-22 Class 5A Girls Tennis State Tournament, held May 12-14 at the Gates Tennis Center in Denver. The Raiders had all of their singles and doubles teams qualify for State. The No. 1 Doubles Team of Mary Clare Watts '24 and Lucy Filippini '24 advanced to the semifinal round, while all three singles players won their first-round matches to compete in the quarterfinals.     Congratulations to Head Coach Anthony Mattacchione and the Boys Varsity Rugby team on winning back-to-back CIRA State Championships. Despite narrowly losing to Monarch High School 10-7 in the final game, the Raiders' point advantage throughout the season put them on top.   • BOYS RUGBY REMAINS UNDEFEATED IN LEAGUE

    With their recent 44-19 victory over Palmer High School, the Varsity Boys Rugby team celebrated its sixth consecutive win and is undefeated in the Colorado Interscholastic Rugby Association (CIRA) League. Currently holding a 6-2 overall record, the team was dealt two early-season non-league losses but has continued not only to dominate in the league but win by big margins. The Boys Rugby program has continued to grow both in popularity and talent over the last several years, and Coach Mattacchione attributes having multi-sport athletes and strong leadership as some of the keys to the team's overall strength and success.     Great Raider Ty Blach '09 celebrated a win after his Big League debut, pitching four scoreless innings of relief in the Rockies' 9-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, April 10 at Coors Field. Only giving up one hit with a walk and four strikeouts, he earned his first professional save. Blach joined a shortlist of Rockies pitchers to pitch four or more innings in relief and allow two or fewer baserunners. He also became just the seventh Rockie to record a four-inning save.

    FRAN BELIBI '19 DUNKS DURING MARCH MADNESS

    Great Raider Francesca Belibi '19 waited to showcase her dunking ability until March Madness this year. The Stanford junior blocked a shot at the three-point line before charging back down the court to throw the dunk down in the second quarter of the No. 1-ranked Cardinal win over Montana State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Belibi is the first woman to dunk in the tournament since Britney Griner did it in 2013, and only the third woman to do it in tournament history.

    Congratulations to the Girls Swim & Dive Team on their outstanding performance at the 2021-22 Class 5A Swim & Dive State Championships which took place on Wednesday, February 16 at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton, CO. The Raiders placed third overall scoring 349 team points. Team leader Emma Weber '22 finished the competition as a two-time State Champion in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:01.65.     Great Raider Missy Franklin '13, gold-medal Olympian and mental health advocate, recently gave the keynote speech at the University of Colorado’s Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Depression Center. where she shared her journey through depression and anxiety and the impact that it had on her personal life, career and family. In her inspiring and honest presentation, Missy spoke of the importance of keeping balance in life, and how the domination of external pressures affected her overall performance and love for swimming and competing. Her openness about her mental health journey and her perspective on quieting external pressures and keeping a strong self-balance is an inspiration to us all. We continue to cheer, ‘Go Missy!’

    HOCKEY HEAD COACH DAN WOODLEY CELEBRATES 300TH WIN

    Before the start of the home game against Ralston Valley at Family Sports Center on January 7, alumni and current players from the Varsity Hockey program surprised Head Coach Dan Woodley to celebrate his impressive 300th career victory. Woodley and longtime Assistant Coach Terry Ott have been at the helm of the program together for 17 years. The coaches, including Dan's defensive assistant coach and elder son, Grant Woodley, received pucks commemorating the achievement bestowed by current and former team captains Gage Bussey '22 and former captains John Booren '08 and Jack Jordan '16. To top off a great celebration, the Raiders went on to beat Ralston Valley 6-0. With a current 10-0 overall record, the team remains ranked No. 1 by the Colorado High School Activities Association. Congratulations to Coach Woodley and the entire RJ Hockey program!

    Congratulations to Head Coach Matt Darr and the Varsity Baseball Team on their invitation to play in the ninth annual 2022 National High School Invitational (NHSI) from April 6-9 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Regis Jesuit was selected as one of only 16 teams across the country—and the only one from Colorado—to compete in this elite tournament, spotlighting the best prep baseball players. The Raiders' last appearance in this tournament was in 2014. Way to go, Raiders—we are proud of you!

  • RJ GIRLS BASKETBALL PROGRAM SUPPORTS THE DENVER DREAM CENTER

    Over Christmas Break, coaches, athletes and family members from the Girls Basketball program participated in the Santa's Elves Holiday Giving event on December 18 at Coors Field. This event is hosted by the Denver Dream Center, which works to restore hope and share God’s love with those suffering from poverty, crime and addiction. The organization also seeks to reconnect people who have been isolated by poverty, substance abuse, gangs, imprisonment, homelessness, abuse and neglect with God and to a community of support to meet both their physical and spiritual needs.

  • BOYS LACROSSE HONORS VETERANS THROUGH WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA CEREMONY

    Over the Christmas break, 15 members of the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, along with Coach Flannery and several parents participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver to pay tribute to fallen soldiers and those who currently serve in the armed services. The mission of the National Wreaths Across America Day is to host ceremonies nationwide each December, including at Arlington National Cemetery and at more than 2500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad, laying wreaths on each hero’s grave to remember those who have fallen, honor those who currently serve and their families and teach future generations about the sacrifices made to preserve our freedoms.
