    STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR BOYS NO. 3 DOUBLES TENNIS TEAM

    Congratulations to the duo of KC Eckenhausen '25 and Liam McDonnell '23 who secured the No. 3 Doubles title at the 5A Boys State Tennis Tournament on October 16, 2021. Their win and a second-place finish by Conor Kaczmarczyk '22 at No. 1 Singles helped the Raiders come in fourth place as a team at the State Tournament. The loss in the final match was Kaczmarczyk's first of this season and only the third in his entire career at RJ - quite an accomplishment. Congratulations to the entire team and thank you for representing Regis Jesuit so well!

    Good luck to the Boys Varsity Tennis Team competing in the 5A State Championship Tournament taking place October 14-16 at the Gates Tennis Center. Regis Jesuit currently sits in fourth place with a total team score of 15, just points behind Cherry Creek, Valor Christian and Fossil Ridge High Schools.     If you plan on playing a sport this coming winter, you must turn in a current physical no later than November 12, 2021, as well as complete all required forms and registrations prior to the first practice or tryout. Parents/guardians of new athletes will also have to complete the online Athletic Policy Acknowledgement form. Please visit the Athletics tile in My RJ to download and complete the CHSAA Physical Examination form (requires a physician to complete and sign a section of the form) and submit the online Athletic Policy Acknowledgement form. Submit your completed CHSAA physical by emailing the athletic trainers: Caroline Shaw (Boys) or Lindsay Casas (Girls). All pages of the CHSAA physical must be completed and submitted.

    The Boys Golf Team of Will Bikulcius '22, Cole Dewey '23, Jake Irvine '23 and Roland Thornton '25 competed in the 2021-22 Class 5A State Tournament on October 4 and 5 at the Colorado Springs Country Club. They competed against top golfers in the state and finished the tournament in ninth place with an overall score of 474. Strong performance, Raiders!

  • CROSS COUNTRY TAKES FIRST AND SECOND PLACE AT THE SALIDA CLASSIC

    Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams on their impressive finishes at the Salida Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 2. The Girls Cross Country Team ran a tight race and took the team title with 32 points overall. Jo Collins ’23 was the fourth runner and first Raider across the finish line, followed by Erika Danzer ’24 in fifth and Molly Kate McCloskey ’22 in sixth. Runners-up to hometown Salida High School, the boys team was led by Matthew Tartell ’24, who crossed the finish line in eighth place, followed by David Flaig ’24 in ninth. Well done, Raiders! Both teams' next meet is the Continental League Championships on Thursday, October 14 at Highlands Ranch High School.

    Boys Varsity Tennis once again claims the Continental League Tournament Championship Title ending regular season play with an 8-1 record. Following this momentous win, the Raiders competed against the top teams in the state at the Ralston Valley Invitational Tournament where they finished as runners-up.   • CROSS COUNTY COMPETES IN KU RIM ROCK FARMS INVITE IN HONOR OF FORMER COACH, BEN BROWNLEE

    Members of the Girls and Boys Cross Country Teams traveled to the University of Kansas on September 24-25 to run in one of the most famous cross country courses in the country - the KU Rim Rock Farms Invite. The team made the trip in loving memory of their former coach, Ben Brownlee, who competed for the University of Kansas. Joining the students, Ben's father traveled from out of state to take part in celebrating Coach Ben and the sport he loved. Coach Ben passed away tragically last fall in a hiking accident, but made a huge impact on both the RJ Cross Country and Track programs in his short time with the teams with his endless positivity and constant drive to work hard and do better. The team enjoyed both a fun time and developing a deeper connection to their coach and each other. They hope to make the trek to Kansas in honor of their former coach and mentor an annual event. Great job, Raiders!

    HISTORIC WINS HELP THE UNBEATEN VARSITY FIELD HOCKEY TEAM REMAIN ON TOP

    The Varsity Field Hockey Team achieved not one, but two historic wins this season, helping them to remain in the number one spot in the CHSAA 5A standings with a record of 9-0-1. In Lou Kellogg Stadium on Friday, October 1, the undefeated Raiders outscored and outplayed their long-time rival, Kent Denver, narrowly beating them 1-0. This is the first time the Raiders have beaten the Sun Devils in league play in program history and comes off another program first earlier in the season when the team beat Colorado Academy in league play for the first time in program history! The win against Colorado Academy also marked the program's 100th win since its inception in 2010. Way to go, Raiders and good luck as you head into the final games of the regular season!

    EMMA WEBER '22 COMPETES IN 2021 FINA SWIMMING WORLD CUP

    Congratulations to Emma Weber '22 who has been selected to represent USA Swimming in the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup. Weber will compete in two international competitions in October 2021, swimming in the 100 breaststroke for both competitions. The first is scheduled for this weekend, October 1-3 in Berlin, Germany, and the second is in Budapest, Hungary, on October 7-9. Weber is one of just 18 swimmers selected for the World Cup competitions who swam in the semifinals or beyond at the Olympic Trials. Way to go, Emma! We are cheering for you.

    Congratulations to the Boys Golf Team on winning the Class 5A Central Regional Championship Tournament on September 21 at Overland Park Golf Course in Denver. This win qualifies them for the State Tournament on October 4-5 in Colorado Springs. The Raiders tied for first place with Cherry Creek at the end of regular play but took the crown after beating the Bruins in a two-hole playoff.

    Great Raider Missy Franklin '13 recently shared her thoughts with KCRA Sacramento's "Dying to Know" podcast on her decision to not return to competitive swimming, as well as what's next for her. The five-time Olympic gold medalist expresses her happiness following her transition from swimming professionally to her newly found passions and work with both USA Swimming and Team Bridgestone, spreading the word on both water and road safety. She will enjoy this summer's 2020 Tokyo Olympics at home while awaiting the pending birth of her first child.

  • CHRIS KORTE '14 MAKES KORN FERRY TOUR DEBUT

    Great Raider Chris Korte '14 continues to elevate his game on the links as he shot a nine-under-par 62 in the qualifying round at Highland Meadows Golf Club, earning a spot in the third annual TPC Colorado Championship at Heron Lakes on July 8-11. He went 75-69 in the tournament, missing the cut by only one stroke. As part of the Korn Ferry Tour, this elite tournament is considered to be a springboard to the PGA Tour. Korte has been a member of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica since 2019 and is a recent graduate from the University of Denver.

    The Girls Varsity Lacrosse Team ended an impressive season with several athletes earning All-League, All-State and All-American distinctions for the 2020-21 CHSAA 5A season. Congratulations to Grace Weigand '21 and Cate Lord '21 on their selection to the All-American Team as well as earning First Team All-State and First-Team All-League honors. Weigand was also selected to the 2021 All-Academic Team. In addition, Krissy Rael '21 was selected to Second Team All-State and First Team All-League and Paris Corporon '22 received All-State Honorable Mention and First-Team All-League honors.     Congratulations to recent graduate Alec Willis '21, who was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the seventh round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. The first Colorado player picked and drafted 211th overall, the right-handed pitcher finished his senior season with an impressive 0.72 ERA and 54 strikeouts throwing between 92-96 mph this year.     NEW STATE DIVING RECORD AND TWO STATE MEDALS FOR BOYS SWIM & DIVE

    Congratulations to the Boys Swim & Dive Team on their outstanding performance at the Class 5A State Championship on June 24, ending the tournament with two State Championship medals. The Raiders finished in second place as a team with a total of 400.5 points behind first-place Cherry Creek with a score of 530 points. Gio Aguirre '22 took home the State title for the 100 Free, and Sawyer Inglis '21 finished second in the 500 Free.

    Quinn Henninger's '21 consistent diving and unbeatable performance wowed spectators and set a new State record. With an impressive 642.8 points, he easily outscored his opponents by more than 60 points and clinched the 2021 Dive State Championship and his second high school career title.

    Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Varsity Track & Field Teams on their strong performances at the 2021 Continental League Championships on June 17-19 at Echo Park Stadium. The Girls Varsity Team took several first place trophies: Amelie Colsman '22, 800 meter run; Fabiola Belibi '22, 100 meter hurdles and long jump; 4x800 meter relay team of Amelie Colsman '22, Alexandra Collins '23, Molly Kate McCloskey '22 and Kylie Martin '22. Belibi set a new school record for the long jump at 19'7", breaking the record she set earlier this year by almost two feet! The Boys Varsity Team also placed first in the following events: D'Andre Barnes '23, 100 and 200 meter dash; Luke Ford '22, high jump; Nunie Tuitele '22, discus. Excellent job, Raiders! The State Tournament will take place on June 24-26 at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood.     Congratulations to the Boys Varsity Swim & Dive Team on winning the 2021 Continental A League Swimming Championship on June 16 and 17, earning an impressive 486 points and outscoring their opponents by more than 100 points. Hosting the tournament in their new pool hangar, the Raiders dominated in the 50 Freestyle with Mack Dugan '22 taking first place followed by Nick Ames '21, Jacob Sykora '22 and Elijah Hawkins '22 respectively. The Raiders took additional first-place rankings in the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays.

  • RJ HOSTS MEMORIAL SOCCER GAME HONORING THE LIFE OF FORMER COACH DAVID BULOW

    In celebration of the life and friendship of dear friend and former Regis Jesuit Girls Soccer Coach, David Bulow, the Regis Jesuit Girls Soccer program hosted a benefit soccer game against Douglas County High School on June 5, 2021, in Lou Kellogg Stadium. Current faculty and staff, as well as former coaches and players, came out to honor Bulow, who passed unexpectedly at the age of 41 after suffering a stroke. Former player Kayla Young '07, along with current Girls Varsity Head Coach, Will Cropper '98, helped to organize the benefit event that raised more than $2500 in support of Bulow's wife, Nellie, and children, Aaron, Cameron and Lucy.

    On Saturday, June 14, the Boys Varsity Rugby Team beat long-time rival, Palmer High School, to take the 2021 Boys Colorado Rugby Association (CIRA) Championship title.     The Boys and Girls Track & Field Teams are off to an amazing start in the CHSAA 2021 Spring Season D. To date, 16 athletes and relay teams are currently ranked in the Top 18 in 5A Track & Field. Among these athletes, two have set a new bar, breaking RJ school records this season. Rylie Ward '21 now holds the record for the longest discus throw at 118.5 feet, beating the record set in 2018 by four feet. Fabiola Belibi '22 bested her own record in Long Jump with a new distance of 17 feet 9 inches. Congratulations and keep up the great work, Raiders!

    In front of an exuberant crowd at Cherry Creek's Stutler Bowl, No. 4 Varsity Field Hockey upset No. 2 Cherry Creek Bruins in an amazing sudden-death double-overtime 2-1 victory to secure the program's second State Championship. They also took the title in 2018. Lily Castiglione '22 kicked off the scoring with the first goal in the first half, and Cate Lord '21 delivered the game-winning goal, just 48 seconds into double-overtime. The Raiders' cohesive teamwork, passion and perseverance helped this tight-knit team dominate throughout the season, culminating in this sweet season-ending victory. Way to go, Raiders!

    AVERY VANSICKLE '21 BATTLES THROUGH ADVERSITY TO REMAIN ON TOP OF HER GAME

    Throughout her high school basketball career, Avery VanSickle '21 has battled through adversity, suffering from various illnesses and injuries—bouts with mono, being hospitalized with kidney stones, suffering from lingering back injury pain. Most recently, she had knee surgery to remove a bone spur and repair a partially torn knee ligament. However, the hardest challenge came during her junior year when her father, Bryan, was diagnosed and treated for Stage 4 melanoma. Friends, teammates and classmates all rallied to support Avery and her family, and her dad is now in remission.
