Theology Curriculum

As part of the graduation requirements, students at Regis Jesuit High School complete four years of Theology, grounded in Catholic doctrine, Ignatian spirituality and academic inquiry.

Freshman Theology
Freshman Theology builds on a foundational belief that all people are created by love, for love and to love. Students study the history and patronage of Regis Jesuit High School, as well as the core doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, including the Nicene Creed and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Sophomore Theology
Sophomore Theology focuses on Sacred Scripture, offering a survey of the Old Testament and the Gospels, alongside an introduction to discipleship in the New Testament.

Junior Theology
In Junior year, students explore Catholic teaching on the human person (Anthropology), created in the image and likeness of God (Imago Dei)—who is Love (1 John 4:16). From this foundation, students study Christian ethics, examining how this understanding of love informs their relationships with God, self, others and all of Creation.

Senior Theology
Senior students choose from a selection of advanced theology courses, including:
  • A Theology of Encounter
  • Christian Life
  • Discipleship & Social Justice
  • Ignatian Spirituality
  • Religions of the World
  • The Examined Life
  • Theology Seminar
Courses designated with an asterisk offer the opportunity to earn college credit through Saint Louis University.
