CANNONBALL DAY: WRAPPING UP VIA FIRST-YEAR PROGRAMMING WITH A SPLASH

To round out VIA programming, the Class of 2028 took part in a beautiful and sunny Cannonball Day on May 14. This annual tradition saw the freshmen bonding and commemorating the beginning of St. Ignatius' spiritual conversion, which began during a lengthy convalescence after being struck in the leg by a cannonball on May 20, 1521 during the Battle of Pamplona between the Spanish and the French. This ever-popular event marks the end of the students' first year at Regis Jesuit.
RJ's Director of Pastoral Ministries, Fr. Eric Ramirez, SJ, shared Ignatius' incredible conversion story during a special Mass followed by students performing their own 'cannonball moments' by jumping into the pool cannonball style and launching cannonballs (a.k.a. water balloons) at the school's suit of armor "RJ Raider" in honor of St. Ignatius. A favorite of the day is when Fr. Eric, affectionately known as Padre, joined the fun with his own cannonball in the pool, marking the ending of his service at Regis Jesuit with a splash!

Congratulations, Class of 2028, on a great freshman year! What a great way to enjoy the brotherhood and sisterhood at RJ together in celebration of the end of a spectacular first year.
