STUDENTS VISIT CADAVER LAB AS PART OF ALUMNI MENTORING MINI-SERIES

On April 5, 2021, a group of eight Regis Jesuit students learned first-hand what it is like to be a physician assistant as part of our RJ Connect: Alumni Mentoring Mini-Series. Led by Great Raiders Marielle Renehan ’13 and Drew Miller ‘13, and chaperoned by RJ science teacher, Kevin Russell, the group took part in the Cadaver Outreach Program at Red Rocks Community College, visiting a cadaver lab and learning more about human anatomy. Designed to help current high schoolers learn more about this career path, the group met on four occasions to discuss various topics including paths to becoming a physician assistant, the education and experience needed for this field, different PA specialties and how to best prepare oneself during high school and college.
Following the group visit to the lab, Renehen shared her motivations for staying engaged with Regis Jesuit and mentoring students interested in medicine. "Through this mini-series, my goal from the beginning was to get these young women excited about medicine and introduce them to the PA profession. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a cadaver lab when I was in high school, and that experience is what led me to pursue a career in medicine. To be able to explore the human body up close and personal is a unique opportunity I wanted to give to the girls. I am amazed by how receptive and engaged they have been throughout the past few months and am excited to see what their futures have in store!”
