Janice McVicar

We are saddened to inform you that Janice McVicar, mother of Thomas '72, also deceased, John '74, Michael '75, Daniel '76, Mark '79, Kevin '82 and Chris '87, passed away on March 24.

"Jan was born Janice Marie Lampe on Dec. 6 1931 in Mason City Iowa. Her parents were John A. Lampe and Margaret A. Lampe (Patrick), both natives of Iowa. Jan was the oldest of four girls in the family. She was followed by Bonnie, Peggy, and Judy. The Lampes moved from Mason City to Emmetsburg, Iowa, and Spencer Iowa, before returning to Mason City. Jan graduated as class Valedictorian from St. Joseph’s High School in Mason City in 1949.  After spending a year at St. Therese’s College in Winona, MN, and a semester at Northern Illinois State Teachers College (now Northern Illinois University), Jan transferred to the University of Colorado in Boulder, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education.  It was in Boulder in 1953, where she met her husband of 58 years, Thomas Henry McVicar, while Tom was serving as an altar boy. They were married on September 5, 1953, in Boulder. Their first son, Thomas H. McVicar III, was born in 1954 in Boulder.  While Tom was stationed with the US Army in Fort Eustis, VA, and Newfoundland, Canada, Jan bore two more children, John Patrick and Michael James.  After leaving the army, Tom, Jan and family moved to Independence Missouri, where she bore 4 more children, Daniel Joseph, Kathleen Michele, Mark Albert, and Maureen Frances. In 1964, the family moved back to Colorado, settled in Broomfield, where Jan would spend the rest of her 58 years. It was here where Jan bore the rest of her children, Kevin Edward, Eileen Margaret, Christopher Sean, Coleen Ann, and Jeanne Marie Rose.  Jan and Tom were active members of Nativity of our Lord Catholic Parish in Broomfield for the rest of their lives. Jan was the Founder and Publisher of Nativity News, the monthly parish newsletter, through the late 1960s and 1970s. " Click here to view the full obituary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Society of Nativity of Our Lord

A Funeral Mass will be held at Nativity of Our Lord at 10:30 am on Friday, April 1, followed by a public luncheon after the service. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.nool.us/.

We join the prayers of the community of Regis Jesuit with yours for the repose of Janice's soul and the consolation of her family and all those who loved her. May she rest in peace.
