Day 2

Toddlers and Guaguas. First Full Day.
Que lo que, wawawas. We have returned once again to deliver this slice of life pie to you from a beautiful Monday evening. After an eventful first evening, we were jolted awake at the sign of first light. Well, most of us. We had convened for the second time during our stay at the cafeteria and had begun our second feast of our weeklong stay. Although unfortunately Phoebe, Kate, and Mary Clare had not risen by that moment to enjoy our fried yucca, fruits, bagels, and breads, which is a crying shame, rest assured. After this unfortunate outing for some, we had gathered at the library once more, this time to go over the culture, slang, plans, and peoples of this land. Erin unfortunately couldn’t stay awake; an unfortunate side effect of her lack of sleep. And when we had finished this meeting, we sat down again, together this time, to enjoy our lunch of ribs, rice, and salad, all of which were wiped away from our plates wholesale. Once this outing was done, we gathered once again in the library to exchange currencies for our stay in this land, a crucial step in the path to integrate into the civilian populace of the Dominican Republic. Once we had finished transferring these items, we began our journey to the Red de Misericordia orphanage, a true test of character for some. At the orphanage, we gathered in a large, outdoor auditorium to play with the children, and this time was a riot. Between the skin-slagging heat, Sebastian’s shirt changing shades. and the unadulterated ruthlessness of the children, our limits were tested to the extremes. However, with the end of this chapter, we were granted a true blessing: ice cream and frozen yogurt, all before our evening meal. And as we finished this treat, we arrived again at the cafeteria, to enjoy fish, chicken, potatoes, and flan. After this, we had a quick jaunt over to the corner store and back, with some of us purchasing nothing, and others lots. As we once again returned, we gathered to reflect. We have a long day ahead of us, and longer ones beyond that. And with those days we run the risk of radio silence, but we will do what we can to keep you informed as our days go. This is the blog crew, signing off.
