Luca Griego '21 Tackling Poor Air Quality with Detox

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) junior Luca Griego ‘21 is tackling the issue of poor indoor air quality, specifically on college underclassmen, with his company, Detox.  Griego and four of his classmates started Detox after they were tasked with developing a company that aimed to solve one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a classroom assignment.

Many university underclassmen suffer from poor air quality due to aging buildings, outdated HVAC systems, poor building upkeep, mold and asbestos, and other volatile compounds. University undergraduates commonly live in these conditions. To solve the problem, Detox sells affordable and easy to maintain houseplants, and spreads awareness through events and social media.

“Regis Jesuit really motivated me to work hard and starting a company takes a lot of hard work, time commitment, and sacrifice,” says Griego. He feels that Regis Jesuit made him well prepared to tackle an issue that is affecting others and helped him develop the critical thinking skills he needed to start Detox.

Griego says that Regis Jesuit students should be conscious of the fact that they can do anything they set their minds to. He's adopted a mindset of embracing challenges instead of seeing them as something to be feared, which has allowed him to overcome many obstacles both at Regis Jesuit and LMU.

Great job, Raider! We are excited to see where your journey with Detox takes you!
