NEW BOYS LACROSSE COACHING STAFF ANNOUNCED

Regis Jesuit Athletics is excited to announce the appointment of Ross Moscatelli as the new Head Coach of the Boys Lacrosse Program, replacing longtime Head Coach Jim Soran who retired at the end of the 2022-23 season after 32 years, four State titles and more than 380 career wins at the helm. Will Deines '14 will serve as the Assistant Head Coach.
With an illustrious background in lacrosse and a passion for developing athletes both on and off the field, both Moscatelli and Deines are poised to lead Regis Jesuit lacrosse to new heights, bringing a wealth of experience as both players and coaches. Their strategic insights, dedication to skill development and commitment to fostering a positive team culture make them an excellent fit for Regis Jesuit. Each has also served as assistant coaches for the RJ program prior to being selected for their new positions. Deines has served as defensive coordinator of the Raiders since the 2000 season, and Moscatelli joined the team prior to the 2022 season to focus on player development, assisting Coach Stephen Flannery with offensive strategy.

Ross Moscatelli began his lacrosse career at Air Academy High School in Colorado Springs, where he was selected All-State as a sophomore. He then transferred to the Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut, where he played three seasons, being named All-League in two out of three years. In his senior season, Moscatelli was named the Western New England Prep Schools Offensive Player of the Year, led his team as a captain to an undefeated league championship and was named All-American. He has subsequently been inducted into Canterbury’s Athletic Hall of Fame for his accomplishments in lacrosse as well as in ice hockey and soccer. He went on to play lacrosse at Duke University where he was twice named Offensive Player of the Year and led the team to its first ACC Championship, was named ACC Tournament MVP and was a USILA All-American as a senior captain. Off the field, Moscatelli was a four-time Academic All-ACC member and was an Academic All-American his senior year. More recently, he was tabbed as the top midfielder from Colorado to have played Division I lacrosse by LaxAcrossAmercia, He joins Regis Jesuit alums, Mike Law ’97 (attack) and Tanner Scales ’12 (defense), who are also ranked in the top eight players overall on this list.

"I am truly honored to be named the Head Lacrosse Coach at Regis Jesuit," said Moscatelli. "Lacrosse has always been a significant part of my life, and I'm excited to share my knowledge and passion with the talented athletes competing for Regis Jesuit. Our goal is to cultivate a culture of excellence, teamwork, sportsmanship and faith while competing at the highest level. I am truly grateful for this opportunity. We would like to thank Jim Soran and Kim Thiel for all their years of dedication to Regis Jesuit and the Lacrosse program. They, and the players who wore the Raider jersey for them, established the foundation of success we hope to build upon at Regis Jesuit.”

Assistant Head Coach Will Deines brings a wealth of expertise to the team, both through his own lacrosse background as well as his experience as an alumnus. Graduating from Regis Jesuit in 2014 as a member of that year’s State Championship team as well as the recipient of multiple honors—All-American, All-State, All-Conference and Co-Colorado Player of the Year—Deines is poised to contribute significantly to the growth and success of the team. He went on to play Division I lacrosse at Mercer University, where he was a four-year starter, earning All-Conference honors in each of those seasons and was elected as a captain his senior year.

"I'm thrilled to continue to be a part of the coaching staff for the Regis Jesuit Lacrosse program," said Deines. "I'm looking forward to working closely with Coach Moscatelli, Coach Host and our talented athletes to refine their skills, build a strong team identity, and achieve our collective goals. It is an honor to have the opportunity to help other RJ student-athletes grow and succeed in a program and at the school that is such a large source of pride for me.”

Regis Jesuit Athletic Director Todd Schuler remarked, “We believe that the appointment of Ross Moscatelli and Will Deines will bring an exciting new chapter to the lacrosse program. Their combined experience, leadership and enthusiasm for lacrosse and the student-athletes at Regis Jesuit will undoubtedly inspire our teams to reach new levels of success. While we look forward, we are profoundly grateful to Coach Soran and Coach Thiel for their many years of dedication to Regis Jesuit and its lacrosse program.”
